MONIQUE COLEMAN (ACTRESS / PHILANTHROPIST)
Monique Coleman is an American actress, dancer, singer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist best known for her co-starring role in Disney’s High School Musical movies, in which she plays Taylor McKessie. Most recent, Coleman was named the first ever UN Youth Champion for the International Year of Youth and is currently on a world tour to raise awareness of challenges facing youth.
JOEL JACINTO (LA CITY COMISSIONER)
Immersed in the nonprofit field for close a quarter century, Joel Jacinto brings to the Board of Public Works Commission extensive experience in working with youth, families, businesses and communities. Complementing his work in social services, Jacinto is a long-time arts and cultural practitioner, having co-founded in 1990, a Filipino folk and traditional arts organization, Kayamanan Ng Lahi. He is a founding board member of the Alliance for California Traditional Artists (ACTA), which provides advocacy, grants, and other resources for folk and traditional artists in California to preserve the health and longevity of California’s cultural landscape.
ROB BALUCAS (PARATRIATHLETE)
Rob Balucas is a third generation Filipino-American everyday guy who has a passion to compete in triathlon. In 2015, he suffered a spinal cord injury in a cycling accident while training for an IRONMAN. His first goal after spinal fusion surgery was to compete in a triathlon within a year. He went on to complete 3 triathlons that next year as a paratriathlete. Currently, he’s training to compete in both marathons & IRONMAN triathlons. He’ll share how his experience as a Filipino-American shaped his ability to recover so quickly.
