FACINE 24 and ARKIPELAGO BOOKS host the book launching of Andrew Leavold’s book, THE SEARCH FOR WENG WENG, based on his documentary film of the same title, about the 2’9″ Filipino action superstar Weng Weng. The Australian filmmaker Andrew Leavold who is acknowledged for his more than ten-year painstaking research on genre filmmaking in the Philippines will also deliver a 20-minute lecture and film screening on the Secret History of Filipino Cinema.

Mr. Leavold will be honored with this year’s FACINE Gawad Sulong Sine [forward, film], an award given to an individual, group or organization who/that advocates for the cause of Filipino film outside of the Philippines.

Organizer of LECTURE: SECRET HIST OF FILIPINO FILM/BOOK LAUNCH: SEARCH FOR WENG FACINE is a nonprofit media arts organization that aims to promote and advocate for the interests of Filipino cinema, both from the Philippines and the Filipino diaspora, in the US. The Philippine Studies Department, City College of San Francisco is the only department on Philippine Studies in the US that offers courses in Filipino language, history and culture.
